The Saluki is considered to be one of the oldest pure breeds of dogs in the world, perhaps the oldest, and may have been in existence for over 10,000 years.

Islamic tradition considers dogs, kelb, to be "unclean", unfit to share the home. However among the Bedouins the Saluki is consider clean and is used for hunting and Salukis are often allowed into the living quarters. Salukis are not kelb, they are Salukis. This is not a widely held belief . While in Baghdad I talked with many locals and they did not hold this belief. Some city people have cats as pets. It seems that only the nomadic Bedouins accept the Saluki as a companion, and depend on Salukis for their hunting abilities.

13 years of Salukis on the Web!  In 1994 this website first went online. The original website url was banking.com/saluki. Shortly thereafter we moved to saluki.com Later  I sold the domain name saluki.com. I am very sorry L did this but we needed the money. I moved the contents to where we are now, saluki.org.  This website is owned and operated by Scott Armstrong and Rachel Armstrong and hosted on the servers of 123web.com I no longer have any connection with Saluki.com and regret that it is now a puppy mill website Scott
