Hatchin' Hannah speaks out on Genealogy and Sex Education

Science has its place in the procreation of the species, but has it taken the romance out of the act of love?

Granted, I am of an older generation, but I still long for those special tender moments. The nuzzling and flirting, the teasing, and oh... the chase! The chase was such a great part of the love process, a little nip, and away, letting him chase, and chase until I let him catch me! Then that tender embrace as his strong arms circled and entwined my waist as... Well, just let it be said that I remember and miss those old days. Now it's all that artificial thing. My special man is probably more in love with the hands of his vet than with me (and jealousy plays no part... I am looking at this scientifically!) Now a lady gets poked and prodded, and it's not by some sexy Sighthound, either. And COLD - chilled or frozen - and that's just the instruments! As for the sperm... Just how do they collect this? What do they have in the vet's office, one of those national saluki magazines with pictures of female salukis with nothing on but a ribbon and a place to scratch and sniff? The vets then "assist", I'm told. Then they put this in a centrifuge and spin it down to concentrate the specimen. After all those sperm spin around and around, getting closer and closer together, it's no wonder they have to be shown where to go. If I was that dizzy, you'd have to point me in the right direction, too. And, come to think of it, have you girls noticed that your kids have been chasing their tails

after this type of pregnancy? I have presently been given a U.S. Government grant to study if there is an increase in tail chasing in saluki puppies born from artificial fertilization due to genetic imprinting centifuged sperm. (I am not sure that the $350,000 will be enough, though, so I am looking for other grants. Anyone interested in assisting me can contact me through the Newsletter.)

An update on the last grant in which the genes of the saluki population were studied, and you will be glad to note that (at long last) we are able to positively state that the letters DNA in Saluki DNA means Definitely No Afghan!

STRAWS IN THE WIND

I was bred to be choosy: discrimination.

Then forced to submit: insemination.

Once, hopelessly romantic: breed in the raw

Now I'm Mrs. Soda Straw!
