The Saluki Club

The Saluki Club – unofficially The Saluki Club of Australia was the first Saluki club to become affiliated in Australia.

The club was formed in June 1974 and the foundation president was Harry Begg of the Idles Acres Salukis, and Mrs Margaret Giles of Kiabe Salukis was first secretary.

In February 1975 Marilyn Ward (Scott) obtained the logo an original drawn especially for the club by Don Wieden (Sedeki).  This logo has now become famous world wide as it adorns and lot of the clubs official fund raising items, including clothing, and has been seen world wide at a lot of the top Saluki Specialty functions.

The Saluki Club held its first Inaugural Parade in 1976 and was judged by Mrs Helen Furber of Furbari Afghans.  Mrs Furber’s BIS was Ch. Idleacres Autumn Storm and Runner up to BIS was Catonam Almira.

The first Championship show was held in 1977 and judge was Mrs Thelma Gray (S.A.) ex U.K.  BIS was Ch. Idleacres Autumn Storm, and Runner up to BIS was Ch. Kiabe Zhivargo.

During 1978 The Saluki Club purchased a perpetual best in show trophy.  It was a bronze reclining Saluki made by Kay Finch.
